Cramer & Anderson Partner Randy DiBella has been named one of the Best Mentors among Connecticut attorneys.

The Connecticut Law Tribune announced the honor March 23 as part of its annual statewide Professional Excellence Awards.

The award, one of four for Cramer & Anderson attorneys this year, was based on a nomination letter submitted by Partner Kent Mancini.

Here’s the nomination in full:

We’re fortunate to have a standout sage passionately mentoring young attorneys so effectively he elevates career arcs while creating the next generation leaders to oversee Cramer & Anderson’s growth and success.

Partner D. Randall DiBella, who holds an AV Preeminent® Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Review Rating™, has deep experience in Personal Injury litigation, arbitration and mediation, and complex civil and insurance litigation—and game-changing experience as our treasured mentor.

“It is never lost on me that we’re dealing with the human condition,” Attorney DiBella has said. “We don’t do a scorched earth protocol here. We have to balance the client’s need for redress, and to be made whole, while maintaining some measure of humanity during the litigation process.”

That quote exemplifies why he is so successful and respected as a mentor.

He always made the time for me when I had any questions at all, but he also would never just give me the answers. Instead he would help me find ways to succeed. He knew when to push me to do better, and when to build me up or nudge me in the right directions if I was frustrated. He would never make things easy for me, and even when I was a new lawyer, Randy would give me tasks and cases that may have been more advanced than I was ready for. But he would also do anything to ensure I didn’t fail.

Attorney DiBella has been Attorney Abigail Miranda’s mentor since she joined the firm as an intern in 2014, and she worked with him on successfully representing the victims of a New Milford house explosion caused by faulty propane installation work. “He holds his mentees to a high standard,” she says. “He’ll call you on mistakes, but will guide you to how you got there, why, and how to fix it.”

“Randy makes a point to ensure I feel supported and he’s not afraid to push me to the next level of my capability. The two go hand-in-hand in making me feel like I can reach higher,” adds Attorney Miranda, honored with a 2017 New Leaders in the Law Award and recently named to Connecticut Magazine’s prestigious “40 Under 40” list. “He speaks in terms of my career trajectory and goals, not just on a case-by-case or project-by-project basis. His support is truly unwavering.”

I could go on citing experiences of attorneys mentored by Attorney DiBella, whom they credit with “a true professional compassion and understanding with the clients.” They also cite the same list of other attributes Attorney DiBella instills as a mentor: highly-caring collaboration; strong work ethic; attention to detail; reaching beyond capabilities to grow; developing trial theories and strategies from the first day with clients, and even stressing the importance of work-life balance and how personal development enhances professional development.

Thanks for your consideration.

Attorney DiBella is joined on the list of winners by Partner Dan Casagrande, who won the Giant Slayer award, and Attorney Christopher Sochacki, who won a Distinguished Leaders award.

Additionally, retired founding partner Henry B. (Hank) Anderson, who lives on Cape Cod and turns 100 this May, is being honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

This year’s honorees will be recognized at a May 24 awards dinner at the Bond Ballroom in Hartford. The CLT’s Attorney of the Year winner will be announced at the dinner.

The 2018 awards add to the firm’s growing list of Connecticut Law Tribune Professional Excellence Awards.

Partner John Tower won a Distinguished Leaders award in 2017, and the same year Attorneys Abigail Miranda and Josh Weinshank won New Leaders in the Law awards.

Attorney Lisa Rivas has also won the New Leaders in the Law award.
