Anderson was a founder of CATIC in 1965, when it was known as the Connecticut Attorneys’ Title Guaranty Fund, and he served as a director on its executive committee.

A World War II hero who survived kamikaze attacks on two aircraft carriers, Anderson went on to become a prominent attorney who played a lead role in shaping the practice of law in Connecticut.

At His Life and Illustrious Legal Career

“Today CATIC is the largest regional title insurance underwriter in the Northeast,” explained Cramer & Anderson Partner Robert L. Fisher, Jr., a director of CATIC since the late 1990s. “The company is licensed to issue title insurance policies in every New England state and Florida, and its sister company, CATIC Title Insurance Company, is licensed in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.”

In September, CATIC held its annual off-site meeting at the Wequassett Resort in East Harwich, Mass., on Cape Cod, about 10 minutes from Anderson’s home in Brewster.

Attorney Fisher relayed the proximity information to Jim Czapiga, president of CATIC, who expressed interest in meeting Anderson.

“A number of current and former board members were attending the annual meeting, so I invited Hank and Bunny to come for dinner on Friday night,” Attorney Fisher said. “They arrived before dinner and met Jim and his wife, Carrie. As the other directors arrived, they were delighted to chat with Hank. It had been four years since Hank had attended any of these annual meetings, which have historically been held in Vermont and other places too far for Hank and Bunny to drive. Hank really appreciated seeing everyone. Even at 100 years of age, he is very sharp and regaled us with stories about the beginnings of the company.”

“We offer our congratulations and our gratitude to Hank for his many years of service to CATIC, the bar at large, and the community,” CATIC said in a Facebook post paying tribute to Anderson.
