Cramer & Anderson has made a donation in support of the Daily Bread Food Pantry’s project to move to a larger new space on Park Avenue from its current site on Terrace Place behind St. James Episcopal Church.
The firm, which has a regional office at 30 Main St. in Danbury, has supported Daily Bread in the past with a donation of shopping carts to give clients without vehicles a way to transport the food they pick up.
“We decided to shift our support this year to the project that will create a supermarket feel for food pantry clients, which Daily Bread views as a more engaging and respectful way to help those in need,” said Immigration Law Partner Lisa Rivas, who is based in the firm’s Danbury office.
According to a story in The News-Times, “The nonprofit’s leaders hope that by early December they will have a new space, at which its guests will be able to step inside, retrieve a cart, check in with their Daily Bread cards and begin picking out food for their families. They will be able to peruse produce in wood bins, select nonperishables from shelves, grab milk and eggs from glass door refrigerators and frozen meats from waist-high freezers.”
“Our more comprehensive operation will not only offer thousands of food insecure families a dignified shopping experience – and, of course, lots of healthy, fresh food – but will provide connections to vital wrap around services as well,” Daily Bread Past President Debbie Landzberg wrote in a thank you note to Municipal Law Partner Dan Casagrande, who serves as Corporation Counsel for the City of Danbury.
“As we spread the word, our volunteer base has been growing as well as our partnerships with social service organizations and support from government leaders” said Landzberg, who called the new location a “super pantry.”
The Daily Bread Food Pantry distributes food free of charge from its building in downtown Danbury and has welcomed those in need, whatever their background or circumstances, since 1984, according to the Daily Bread website, which says, “Our guests struggle to provide food for their families and themselves due to illness, disability, job loss, low wages, or personal crises. Whatever the reasons, we are here to help.”
