The town’s Riverfront Revitalization Committee and the Office of Mayor Pete Bass have sponsored the annual event since 2018 to highlight New Milford’s riverfront and its connection to the adjacent town center.

“New Milford is a great place to live and welcoming to businesses, and everyone benefits from the ongoing initiatives to create a vibrant, accessible, and sustainable riverfront that’s more connected to the town center,” Partner Dan Casagrande said in a press release announcing RiverFest. “Our flagship office is located on the Green in the 1793 Elijah Boardman house, so we get to enjoy the historic town center every day and see the exciting things happening along the riverfront.”

The view to the west from the RiverFest site looks toward Candlewood Mountain, which Cramer & Anderson played a significant a role in safeguarding from “environmental devastation” when it was threatened in recent years by plans for a major solar power operation that had been approved by the Connecticut Siting Council.

Representing the Town of New Milford and the group Rescue Candlewood Mountain in legal action, Attorney Casagrande was able to secure a settlement that dramatically limited the scope of the project, as well as preserving almost 90 acres of Candlewood Mountain as conservation land. He worked on the case with Partner Randy DiBella, who has served as Town Attorney for New Milford since 2004.

In terms of riverfront revitalization, among other efforts the Town of New Milford received a $200,000 state grant in late 2023 to assess brownfield properties that are part of the Public Works facility on Young’s Field and Housatonic Avenue. The focus of the grant is to determine a remediation strategy to allow for future development of the sites, which aligns with the town’s Riverfront Revitalization Master Plan.
