Cramer & Anderson is a Gold Sponsor of the Dec. 14 performances of “Nuts about the Nutcracker” at East Ridge Middle School in Ridgefield.
The 18th annual performances of a work inspired by the 1892 ballet with a score by Pyotr Tchaikovsky will be held at noon and 5 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online or at the door.
Special Olympics Ridgefield is the recipient of all proceeds from the performances presented by the Enchanted Garden arts education center.
Business sponsorships of “Nuts about the Nutcracker” help pay for the costs of uniforms for Special Olympics Ridgefield athletes, as well as equipment, travel and training expenses, registration fees and more.
“Our goal is to provide quality year-round training and programming opportunities to athletes with intellectual disabilities,” says Special Olympics Ridgefield, a part of Special Olympics Connecticut. “We also offer Special Olympics Unified Sports, which teams athletes and their peers without disabilities, known as Unified Partners, to train and partner together during competition.”
“Special Olympics Ridgefield, also in its 18th year, has more than 80 active participants, including athletes, coaches, unified partners, and volunteers who train throughout the year,” said a story in The Ridgefield Press.
The story explained that Jean Cobelli, director of the school of dance at the Enchanted Garden, created, directs and choreographed “Nuts about the Nutcracker.” Cobelli said of the production:
“I feel the Nutcracker Suite is a timeless work of art that would be very hard for me to replicate … . Other stages produce beautiful renditions, but I needed to create something a bit more charming. I designed the Main Street scenery to include ‘Clara’ visiting The Ridgefield Toy Shop, Book Shop, Sweet Shop, and a Dress Shop!” At the end of act one, The Holiday Stroll comes alive — a Ridgefield tradition — the athletes join the stage of dancers during this musical collaboration. The second act takes place in Clara’s bedroom where her magical fairy-tale dream begins.“
The sponsorship is one of many examples of Cramer & Anderson’s community support efforts in Fairfield County and Ridgefield, home to one of the firm’s six offices.
Cramer & Anderson Partner Jennifer Collins—whose daughter Jillian danced in “Nuts about the Nutcracker” for nine years—connected her Lion’s Heart teen service group with the Ridgefield Woman’s Club for a volunteer initiative to sew handmade comfort pillows for breast cancer patients at the Praxair Cancer at Danbury Hospital.
